Our 2017 Apple Day - A great village event !
After our first Apple Day in 2016 this year's event was bigger, better and proved to be a great success all round. With other village organisations getting involved it was a real community event. The Village Hall Trust ran the raffle, the Village Society's stall had aple themed treats and sold books on Shipton and its history, and St Martin's Church opened the church tower for visitors to admire the great view, and also had a teddy zip line from the top of the tower. Many children were to be later seen proudly clutching their teddy's certificates!
A load of different free activities for children brought much laughter and smiles all round. There was Bug House Building, Apple Printing on Cotton Bags to take home, the Longest Apple Peel Competition, a Limbo Obstacle Course, Pressed leaf picture making and a Treasure Hunt in and around the village hall, St Martin's church and the Orchard.
The tombola always is a popular stall run by Jo Warren and the produce stall had many treats, much of made from fruit from our Orchard. Our 2018 Shipton Gorgeous Calendars and Shipton postcards were also on sale. Jean Thorn gave a spinning demonstration that attracted a lot of attention as well.
The adults were not forgotten, with many enjoying a Ploughman's Lunch while having a go at our fun apple themed crossword, and then sampling some cider or apple juice from West Milton Cider.
We still have some 2018 Calendars available, so if you didn't pick yours u on the day, contact any of the trustees to get your copy. Priced at £5 each they make a good Christmas present.
Thank you to everyone who took part, here are some photos from the day -
